Highlights from the MLL MVZ Academy 2026

March 26, 2026

From March 23 to 25, 2026, the annual MLL MVZ Academy on “State-of-the-Art Diagnostics in Hematological Malignancies” took place once again in Munich. The event brought together 12 international participants from Germany, Turkey, Serbia, Luxembourg, and Austria. On-site, attendees experienced a diverse program combining theoretical and practical sessions as well as interactive discussions on leukemia and lymphoma diagnostics.

The MLL MVZ Academy traditionally offers an in-depth insight into the latest developments and diagnostic methods at MLL MVZ. This year’s program covered various diagnostic disciplines, including cytomorphology, immunophenotyping, cytogenetics, and molecular genetics. The interdisciplinary approach of MLL MVZ, as well as genome sequencing and bioinformatics, were explored in detail. A special focus was once again placed on the use of artificial intelligence and the resulting improvements in diagnostics, which are applied daily at MLL MVZ.

A key aspect of the program was the presentation of the current WHO classifications, including detailed information on hematological neoplasms. Speakers specifically addressed diagnostic criteria, guidelines, and recommendations, illustrating them with examples from their everyday work.

Particularly noteworthy, as in previous years, were the hands-on exercises that allowed participants to deepen their skills in microscopy and data analysis under expert guidance. The analysis of interactive case studies also enabled them to independently develop diagnoses, apply their knowledge in realistic scenarios, and test their expertise.

The program concluded with an exclusive laboratory tour, during which participants observed state-of-the-art equipment in action and gained valuable insights into the technologies, workflows, and processes at MLL MVZ.

We sincerely thank all participants for their great interest, engagement, and the inspiring exchange of ideas. We are already looking forward to next year’s MLL MVZ Academy.
The 2027 event date will, as usual, be announced toward the end of the year in our newsletter.

Biallelic TP53 inactivation as a key factor in leukemic transformation

A new study shows that the allelic status of TP53 is crucial for leukemic transformation. Genomic instability and the development of AML or MDS only occur when both alleles are affected.
