From the clinic to the microscope

March 25, 2026

At MLL MVZ, we see it as our mission not only to provide outstanding hematologic diagnostics, but also to actively share our expertise. With this in mind, we further developed the training course “The Diagnostic View into the Microscope – Hematology in the Context of Clinical Presentation, Diagnostics, and Therapy,” which was first held in November 2025. Under its new title, “From the clinic to the microscope: integrated diagnostics in haematology,” the event was held again on March 13 and 14, 2026. We were pleased to welcome a total of 25 colleagues from Germany and Austria, who gained in-depth insights into the fundamentals of cytomorphology and immunophenotyping, as well as cytogenetic and molecular diagnostic methods.

In response to feedback from the previous event, we placed a stronger emphasis on independent microscopy by the participants. Introductory lectures covering the key topics of cytomorphology, immunophenotyping, cytogenetics, FISH, molecular genetics, and histopathology provided the foundation for those practical sessions. During these sessions, participants were able to independently examine samples under expert guidance and assess immunophenotypic cases. This approach enabled them to directly apply what they had learned and to further develop their own expertise. Particular emphasis was placed on incorporating the current WHO classifications.

On Saturday, the participants had the opportunity to take part in an exclusive laboratory tour. This provided insights into the digitalized and automated laboratory workflows as well as the AI-supported diagnostics at MLL MVZ. The tour illustrated the daily challenges and the high level of precision required in diagnostic work.

We would like to sincerely thank all participants and speakers for their strong commitment, their active interest, and the valuable professional exchange. Our special thanks also go to our organizing team.

The event was accredited with 12 CME credits by the Bavarian State Medical Association (BLÄK). In light of the high demand and consistently positive feedback, we are pleased to announce that the course will be offered again on November 27 and 28, 2026. Further details on the program and registration are already available on our website.

Biallelic TP53 inactivation as a key factor in leukemic transformation

A new study shows that the allelic status of TP53 is crucial for leukemic transformation. Genomic instability and the development of AML or MDS only occur when both alleles are affected.
